Vesca's bed is empty.

The I.V. stand is still there, the bag dripping fluid and tiny little drops of blood gracing the floor under it, still fresh enough to gleam. The white linens are still on the bed, rumpled where they had been tucked neatly under. The room is utterly empty, and the Count ignores the tickling of discomfort to rush toward the I.V. The bag should be half-full now; any less and he'll know how far Vesca's been taken.

He's right next to the bed when that tingle of doubt becomes realization in a single thought: the chair's gone too.

Pain explodes in his head, and the Count hits the floor.
